Ms. Sang came to America as a refugee, leaving behind war but bringing with her the bold, soulful flavors of Vietnam—and the quiet hope of starting over. She worked hard, listened closely, and in 1984, opened a small shop in the heart of Oakland.

At first, her dishes were unfamiliar. But with care and intuition, she began to adapt—blending the deep traditions of Vietnamese cooking with touches that spoke to American tastes. Never diluted. Always authentic.

That balance became Pho 84: a place where handcrafted Vietnamese meals feel like home, even if you’ve never been.
